Notre Dame football history is rich with legendary figures and defining moments. Nearly four decades ago, Andy Nickle developed a deep fascination with that history.

What began as a fascination evolved into a focused effort to collect uniquely distinctive artifacts associated with the early years of Notre Dame football. The collecting was joined by a commitment to understanding the historical significance of objects — placing them in proper context and connecting them to the people, events, and stories that shaped Notre Dame football’s enduring legacy.

Nickle’s attention naturally gravitated to Knute Rockne, whose leadership and vision transformed not only Notre Dame, but, also, the entire landscape of college football. In 1995, the Rockne family sold an extraordinary collection of the coach’s personal materials which the family had preserved intact for more than sixty years. Since that time, Nickle has worked to locate, acquire and reunite those Rockne items that had been dispersed across the country.

The shared curiosity of collectors, historians, and fans ultimately led to the creation of this website. In this site you will find images of selected items from the Andy Nickle collection, the collection’s companion book Men, Moments & Myths, a 1958 film on Rockne narrated by Walter Cronkite and a nine episode podcast series on the life and legacy of the legendary Notre Dame coach.
