Rockne of Notre Dame

Narrated by Walter Cronkite

The 1958 Rockne of Notre Dame film narrated by Walter Cronkite describes the legendary career and influence of Knute Rockne and, also, includes a large collection of Rockne speaking clips.

The film clips of Rockne used in this documentary were mostly from from 1929 and 1930 at the time talking and sound were being incorporated into film. They are an example of how Rockne, who staged much of the filming, got out ahead of his peers in adopting methods to promote, market and brand himself and Notre Dame to an audience that had never heard the voices of public figures, let alone see a football practice run by a coach like Rockne.
